The Annie E. Casey Foundation reports that there are over 18 million children in poverty. There are over 1 million homeless students. Reading is Fundamental says that a shocking two-thirds of children in poverty have no books in their homes. Volunteers like Chloe and her mom and friends are changing that.
Here is Chloe and another friend, Anna, sorting magazines for food pantry newsstands that feed children and families hungry to read.
A child unable to read is a child lost. Adults unable to read where once children who didn’t learn how. These magazines have been bundled by Chloe’s team for a Michigan job training program serving adults with an 80% high school drop-out rate and a reading level below 5th grade:
Chloe and her friends are a vital part of vast network of community teams forming to get favorite magazines and comics from anywhere to anywhere in the world to meet literacy needs. With titles for every reading age, interest, and language, magazines and comics are the most powerful literacy engines on the planet.
We need your help to reach more eager readers. Here’s an easy way to fund the delivery of bundles of magazines and comics to waiting literacy programs in the U.S. and abroad. 100% of your financial donation is used to deliver the reading materials:
