Two girls and a mom assemble magazine literacy bundles for school children in India


The Annie E. Casey Foundation reports that there are over 18 million children in poverty. There are over 1 million homeless students. Reading is Fundamental says that a shocking two-thirds of children in poverty have no books in their homes. Volunteers like Chloe and her mom and friends are changing that.
Here is Chloe and another friend, Anna, sorting magazines for food pantry newsstands that feed children and families hungry to read.

A child unable to read is a child lost. Adults unable to read where once children who didn’t learn how. These magazines have been bundled by Chloe’s team for a Michigan job training program serving adults with an 80% high school drop-out rate and a reading level below 5th grade:
